This Week's Featured Adoptable: Tina

Tina is a beatiful red pittie with the most adorable smile.

Tina was rescued by the Heigel Foundation after she was dropped The Humane Society of Utah after being used as a backyard breeder.  But she hasn't let her past get her down!
Tina is a bright, fun loving girl, full of energy for a good game of fetch.  If Tina were a person, she'd be an athlete for sure -- this girl is all muscle.  She loves to run and chase her tail, but walks very well on a leash.  She likes to snuggle and give kisses, and will jump up to get them, so a home with older children would probably be best.  Tina adores being around people, and will sing if you leave her crated up for too long.  She's also a little afraid of water, so bath times can be a challenge.  She hasn't been tested around cats, but they may not appreciate her love of the chase.  Tina is also very selective of her canine friends, so it would be best to introduce her to any potential new siblings first.

One thing's for sure: Tina's bright eyes and silly smile will warm your heart every time you see her.

If you're interested in meeting Tina, please contact Cathy at 801-359-5599 or cathy@canineswithacause.com.

This Week's Featured Adoptable: Greta

Greta is a beautiful two-year-old German Shepherd who is looking for a family to love, and her warm, golden eyes mirror her warm heart.

Greta came to CWAC from Salt Lake County Animal Services.  We're not sure how she arrived at the shelter, but we quickly fell in love with this bright girl.  Greta began her training in May and has excelled at all of her lessons.  She is a playful girl who loves to romp around in the yard.  She loves to chase things, but hasn't quite gotten the hang of fetch yet.  She tugs a little while walking on leash, but has come a long way  in her time with us and is eager to learn.

Greta loves nothing more than to be around people -- her eyes light up when you walk into a room -- but she is a little skittish and sudden movements can spook her, so a home with older kids may be better.  She is house-trained and has a very soft voice (especially for a Shepherd), but like all Shepherds, she is strong and will need a family that is willing to positively enforce for boundaries.

If you are interested in meeting Great, please call 801-359-5595 or email Cathy at credking@gmail.com.

This Week's Featured Adoptable: Jake

Have you ever seen a more handsome boy?  Just look at that beautiful brindle.

Jake is a two-year-old Plott Hound mix who has stolen the hearts – and laps – of everyone at CWAC.  Jake came to us from one of the highest-kill shelters in the country: Lancaster Animal Shelter in California.  Jake was brought to the shelter with his sister, former CWAC adoptable, Glory, after their elderly owner passed away.  Jake quickly earned a reputation as a talented escape artist after breaking out of the shelter twice.  He was then rescued by the Heigel Hounds of Hope and was on his way to Salt Lake City.

Jake loves to smile and is very active.  He would be the perfect hiking, running or biking companion.  He’s very gentle but doesn’t quite know his own strength, so a home with older children would probably be better.  He’s also a big lap dog and won’t hesitate to snuggle onto your lap whenever he gets a chance.  Jake loves to chew, and has employed this skill while honing his escape from crates.  He is dog-friendly, but cat selective and is house trained.

Plott Hounds are touted as one of the most trainable breeds, as we’ve found out first hand at CWAC.  Jake is eager to learn and is able to get along with everyone.  True to his breed, Jake is active, brave and enthusiastic – and is looking for the perfect family to call his own.

If you are interested in meeting Jake, contact Cathy at credking@gmail.com, or call our offices, 801-359-5595.

This Week's Featured Adoptable: Mama

Mama is an absolutely adorable two-year-old pittie mix.  She's a smaller girl, but don't let her size fool you -- her personality is larger than life!

Miss Mama was rescued from a shelter in California after her litter was born and her bright prance never fails to bring a smile to the faces of everyone who meets her.  Mama loves to play ball, but expect a fight -- once she gets a hold of a tennis ball, there is little chance that you'll get it back, unless you can outrun her.  Mama is very loving and protective and would be the perfect pup for a family with children.  She's great with kids and tolerates cats, but she can be picky with dogs.

To meet Mama, or just to see her jovial trot, contact Cathy King at 801-359-5595 or credking@gmail.com.

Mama gets some love at a Utah Humane Society Benefit.

Changing Lives Through Canine Companionship

One in four Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans return home with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. More than four million healthy, adoptable animals will be euthanized in shelters this year. These dogs can provide an understanding, loving companion that can help these veterans cope with debilitating flashbacks by bringing them back to the present, therefore helping them re-assimilate back into civilian life.

Canines With a Cause brings shelter dogs and returned veterans together. Vets benefit from the healing companionship of the dog and shelter dogs' lives are saved by finding loving homes.
